Oil Blockade Threatens Cuba's Heavy Reliance on Oil-Fired Power Plants



February 27 2026–Written by Jesse Broehl for IIR News Intelligence (Sugar Land, Texas)–U.S. pressure on Cuban oil imports is taking a toll, with the country’s largest oil refinery being forced to shut down in early February. And now, the country’s electricity infrastructure is at risk since the majority of the country’s power plants run on fuel oil, and most of that oil is imported.
