Constellation May Face Transmission Hurdles on Nuclear Power Plant Restart

Previously heralded by Big Tech, utilities and the Trump administration as paving the way for a new wave of nuclear power in the U.S., Constellation Energy‘s planned restart of Unit 1 at the former Three Mile Island nuclear power plant, renamed the Crane Clean Energy Center, planned for 2027, could be delayed by up to four years, according to news accounts.

The problem stems not from any activity occurring at the plant–in fact, Constellation bumped the unit’s expected restart date from 2028 to 2027–but from a lack of transmission infrastructure caused by delays of planned transmission projects.
