On Monday, Moscow unilaterally declared a ceasefire with Ukraine on 8 and 9 May to cover the celebrations. At the same time, the Russian defence ministry threatened a massive retaliatory strike on the centre of Kyiv if Ukraine tried to disrupt its Victory Day celebrations.
