The Assam cabinet on Friday adopted 75 resolutions thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the development of the state and the Northeast in areas such as peace, security, connectivity, infrastructure and industry.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over a special 90-minute cabinet meeting convened exclusively to deliberate on 25 years of Modi’s public service, first as Gujarat chief minister and subsequently as prime minister.
“Peace created the conditions for development, connectivity opened doors to opportunity, industry and investment created new economic possibilities, and healthcare and education strengthened human capabilities,” Sarma said in a media briefing.
“The cabinet, therefore, placed on record its considered appreciation that, over the past 25 years of PM Modi’s public life, and particularly during his tenure as the prime minister, Assam has witnessed a transformation that is simultaneously economic, social, physical, strategic and civilisational,” the CM said.
From being viewed largely as a distant frontier, Assam is increasingly emerging as a peaceful, connected, confident and investment-ready state, a gateway to the Northeast and an important growth partner in the journey towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’, Sarma added.
The cabinet said the progress made in lifting people out of poverty since 2014 was a significant outcome of the measures undertaken under Modi’s leadership.
It also credited sustained efforts to make freedom from deprivation a national mission and ensure that access to basic necessities was accompanied by dignity, security and opportunities for advancement, Sarma said.
PM Modi’s leadership had been marked by the resolve to confront difficult challenges and transform adversity into opportunity, he said.
“The unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by a deeply uncertain and rapidly shifting global geopolitical environment, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and escalating tensions in West Asia, have tested nations across the world in ways rarely witnessed in recent times,” he said.
Through these difficult and uncertain years, his leadership demonstrated the resolve to face challenges head-on, safeguard national interests and maintain India’s onward march with confidence and determination, he added.
Regarding women empowerment, PM Modi has sought to move decisively from ‘Women Development to Women-Led Development’, recognising women not merely as beneficiaries of development but as leaders and drivers of economic and social progress.
“From dignity and opportunity to entrepreneurship and financial independence, his approach has placed women at the heart of India’s development journey, enabling them to become active participants and leaders in shaping the nation’s future,” Sarma said.
The PM has given due recognition and respect to the ‘Shram Yogis’ who contribute daily to the nation’s economy and social fabric.
“From workers and artisans to street vendors and small entrepreneurs, his approach has sought to bring visibility, dignity and opportunity to those whose everyday labour sustains the nation,” Sarma said.
The PM sought to make access to affordable and quality healthcare a matter of human dignity, security and social justice through initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat and Jan Aushadhi Kendras to protect ordinary families from the financial burden of illness.
Sarma said PM Modi transformed what was traditionally viewed as a governmental responsibility into a nationwide social movement through Swachh Bharat.
“Linking sanitation with dignity, public health and civic responsibility, the PM has sought to make cleanliness not merely a government programme but a shared national commitment and a people’s movement,” the CM added.
