Jeremy Clarkson’s pub has hosted its second Labrador meet-up, welcoming more than 250 dogs and their owners.
The Farmer’s Dog, in Asthall, near Burford in Oxfordshire, hosted the animals and more than 600 people, including Clarkson’s partner Lisa Hogan, for its second Red Fox Labrador gathering on Saturday.
The pub’s Oliver Aucamp said it was “thoroughly memorable”, adding: “We can safely say that we’ve never seen so many wagging tails all on one day.”
Organiser Michael Singer said while “the whole thing started as a bit of a joke really” the proceeds would support charities, including Shout’s 24/7 text service dedicated to farmers’ mental health.
He explained: “I wanted an excuse to visit Jeremy Clarkson’s pub, so I said to my partner, ‘shall I organise a Fox Red Labrador meet there?’.
“The reason for organising the second meet was just as simple – I’d run out of Hawkstone cider and needed an excuse to go back.
“Joking aside, it’s been an absolutely brilliant day.
“Yes it rained but nobody seemed to care. Everyone turned up, the dogs had a fantastic time and the atmosphere was amazing.
“I never imagined that a simple idea would grow into something this big.
“What makes it even more special is that a portion of the money raised through ticket sales will be going to Shout, helping support farmers’ mental health.
“It’s fantastic that an event bringing so many people and dogs together can also contribute to such an important cause.”
Shout is a 24/7 text messaging mental health support service that has partnered with Clarkson’s alcohol brand Hawkstone to support British farmers.
