Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal began his visit to the Netherlands on Sunday with engagements focused on strengthening trade and investment ties, maritime logistics cooperation and connections with the Indian diaspora.
Goyal toured the Port of Rotterdam with its Chief Executive Officer Boudewijn Siemons, highlighting the role of Europe’s largest port as a gateway for Indian goods to European markets and a hub for global supply chains.
The visit underscored the importance of Dutch ports, logistics infrastructure and connectivity in facilitating trade, particularly in the context of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the agreement is expected to create new opportunities for Indian exporters, with the Netherlands positioned to support increased trade flows and stronger India-Europe supply chains.
Goyal’s programme included engagements with maritime and logistics stakeholders in Rotterdam, alongside media interactions.
In Amsterdam, the minister attended an Indian community gathering hosted by the Embassy of India at the Waldorf Astoria. Approximately 70 people, including business and professional representatives, participated.
The interaction highlighted the diaspora’s contribution to bilateral economic, cultural and people-to-people ties.
The ministry said the visit reflected the importance of sustained engagement with Dutch stakeholders to advance trade, investment and commercial cooperation, including opportunities in maritime logistics.
