Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday, kickstarting his three-day visit during which he will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seek to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
This is Tusk’s second visit to India in his capacity as Poland’s Prime Minister. The first was during his earlier tenure in 2010.
“A warm welcome to Prime Minister Donald Tusk of Poland on his arrival in New Delhi. He was received at the airport by (Minister of State Dr Raj Bhushan Choudhary). The visit will provide fresh impetus to the India-Poland Strategic Partnership and further deepen our longstanding ties,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X.
Tusk will meet PM Modi on October 22, when both leaders will review the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, which was elevated to a Strategic Partnership during PM Modi’s visit to Poland in August 2024, the MEA had said earlier.
According to an advisory shared by the MEA on Wednesday, the Polish Prime Minister is scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday morning, following which he will visit Raighat and lay a wreath at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial.
Donald Tusk will then proceed to Hyderabad House, where he will hold talks with Modi, and both leaders will issue press statements.
The two leaders will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The visit would serve to deepen the India-European Union strategic partnership, the MEA said on October 19.
On Thursday evening, Tusk is scheduled to travel to Bengaluru, where he has scheduled meetings with the Karnataka Governor and Chief Minister.
“The visit will provide an opportunity to further strengthen the India-Poland Strategic Partnership and advance cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, defence, emerging technologies, renewable energy, education, culture and people-to-people ties,” the MEA had said.
Tusk had visited New Delhi in 2017 for the India-EU Summit in his capacity as president of the European Council.
