Higher turnout puts women voters at centre of Uttar Pradesh’s 2027 poll battle

The focus on women has become particularly evident in the emerging welfare competition between the ruling BJP and the Opposition Samajwadi Party (SP). In August, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav promised annual financial assistance of ₹40,000 to women if his party was voted to power in 2027. On Tuesday, chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced that his government would soon bring an attractive financial package to make women economically self-reliant.
