Standing below the steps to St Michael and All Angels Church, friends Hannah and Isa say the village is “busy today, but not as busy as we thought it would be”.
They were planning on visiting earlier in the month, but decided against it when they saw long queues documented on social media.
“We have seen on TikTok people queuing up outside. Even tiny little shops, not necessarily restaurants,” Hannah says.
According to Isa, the pair decided to visit on a weekday “because we’ve seen weekends are a bit crazy”.
Further down Main Street, Claire Austin runs Silverland with Passion, her family jewellery business.
“We’ve had such a different influx of people,” she says.
“We have people that come from far and wide. They’ve never seen a village that’s on a big steep hill with so many businesses and residential properties.”
It’s common to see people live-streaming their walk along the street, or photographing the surrounding buildings, which she says “is so nice to see”.
“Because there’s been so many films here, people like to have pictures taken and, sort of re-enact things on the street, which is fantastic to see.
“It’s a great little community, all the businesses work really hard together to make sure that every visitor has the best possible experience.”
However, increased footfall often goes hand-in-hand with an increase of vehicles, she notes, with the village not necessarily “built for the amount of people” visiting.
