Drivers are facing delays on the A1(M) due to an overturned lorry.
All lanes were closed between junctions 60 and 61, at Bowburn, south of Durham, after the Warburtons HGV overturned, flattened the central reservation barrier and “shed its load” across both carriageways at about 05:14 GMT, Durham Police said.
The force said the driver of the lorry was taken to hospital, while a full closure of the northbound carriageway between Bowburn and Carville Interchange remains.
The southbound carriageway has been restricted to the hard shoulder only, with motorists advised to seek alternative routes.
