Second murder arrest in Newton Heath murder probe

A second man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was stabbed to death.

Alisha Samuels, 26, was found dead after officers were called to reports of a disturbance on Dorking Avenue in Newton Heath, Manchester, at about 02:00 BST on Thursday.

A man, 26, was arrested in Liverpool and he remains in custody for questioning, Greater Manchester Police said.

It comes after the force said a 25-year-old man held on suspicion of murder was released on police bail on Friday, pending further inquiries.

Det Ch Insp Justin Bryant said: “We are still seeking information for Alisha’s heartbreaking death, and a number of our teams are dedicated to locate those we believe were involved.

“We have another man in custody, but our investigation is not over.

“We are working tirelessly to establish the full circumstances of this attack, and to provide Alisha’s family with some answers.

“My thoughts remain with them as they navigate this tremendous loss.”

He appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
