Union Home Minister Amit Shah will meet the families of people who allegedly lost their lives for speaking out against the trade in ‘chitta’, a synthetic drug, in Punjab’s Mansa, Sangrur and Gurdaspur districts on October 20, 2026.
In a post on X, HM Shah accused the Punjab government of failing to curb drug abuse in the state, claiming that the growing menace had devastated several families and claimed the lives of many young people.
He said the suffering of families who had lost their children to the drug menace was beyond words and asserted that attempts to silence those opposing the illegal drug trade would not succeed.
The Home Minister also warned that those involved in the drug trade would face consequences, adding that the people of Punjab would give a befitting response to such activities.
HM Shah said the Central government was committed to taking strict action against those involved in the ‘chitta’ trade and ensuring that offenders were brought to justice.
He asserted that the Government of India would track down those engaged in drug trafficking and put them behind bars as part of its efforts to eliminate the menace from Punjab and the rest of the country.
The Home Minister reiterated the Centre’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and working towards a drug-free Punjab and India.
