PLFS Tracks Key Labour Market Indicators
The Periodic Labour Force Survey, conducted by the National Statistical Office under MoSPI, is the principal source of data on labour force participation, employment and unemployment in India.
Since January 2025, the survey methodology has been modified to provide monthly and quarterly estimates of key labour market indicators. The monthly bulletins present all-India estimates of LFPR, WPR and unemployment rate under the Current Weekly Status approach.
The September 2026 bulletin is the eighteenth in the series of monthly PLFS bulletins. The findings indicate broadly stable overall labour market conditions, alongside improved monthly participation in urban areas and a year-on-year decline in the overall unemployment rate.
