Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished Pope Leo XIV a full and speedy recovery and continued good health following his successful surgery.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister expressed happiness over the successful procedure and extended his wishes for the pontiff’s recovery.
“Happy to learn that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV’s surgery last night was successful.
Wishing him a full and speedy recovery as well as continued good health,” the Prime Minister wrote.
According to a medical bulletin issued by the Vatican, the Pope underwent surgery to remove a growth from his right lung. The procedure was reported to have been successful, with no complications.
The Vatican said the Pope was recovering in his hospital room following the operation. His public engagements have been cancelled until October 20, and he was expected to remain hospitalised for approximately a week.
Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Prevost in Chicago in 1955, was elected pontiff in May 2025. He is the head of the Catholic Church, which has approximately 1.4 billion followers worldwide.
