Delhi-NCR is likely to witness a change in weather conditions from Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light rainfall and strong winds across several parts of the national capital. The weather activity is expected to bring a further decline in temperatures.
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to range between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to hover between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius.
Following the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, Delhi-NCR has been experiencing relatively cooler mornings and evenings. Temperatures are expected to decline gradually in the coming days, although warm conditions may persist during the daytime.
On Tuesday, Delhi recorded a below-normal maximum temperature despite clear skies and bright sunshine across most parts of the city. Although the intensity of sunlight increased during the day, residual moisture from the previous day’s rainfall limited the rise in temperature.
The Safdarjung observatory, Delhi’s primary weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 32.5 degrees Celsius, 0.7 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature settled at 21.2 degrees Celsius, while relative humidity fluctuated between 56 and 96 per cent.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has begun withdrawing from parts of the country, even as conditions develop for the onset of the northeast monsoon over southern India. Several southern states are likely to receive heavy rainfall between October 14 and 19.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in parts of Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
Western Rajasthan may experience strong winds, thunderstorms and hailstorms, while snowfall is likely in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Strong surface winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, with the possibility of lightning in some areas.
In central India, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are likely to receive scattered rainfall between October 15 and 19.
Rainfall activity is also expected to continue across parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the next few days.
