Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday paid tribute to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary, recalling his commitment to democracy, social empowerment and national renewal.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Remembering Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary. His appeal transcended generations. He inspired people to believe that public life could be an instrument of national renewal. His fearless voice during the Emergency was also noteworthy.”
“Loknayak JP also was passionate about ensuring good governance and reaching those who are at the margins of society. We remain committed to fulfilling his ideals as we work to build a Viksit Bharat,” he added.
HM Shah, in a post on X in Hindi, remembered Narayan as a great freedom fighter whose entire life was dedicated to the nation and society.
From mobilising young people during the freedom struggle to empowering rural India and advancing Sarvodaya after independence, Narayan worked for the country throughout his life, HM Shah said.
“During the Emergency, his call for ‘Total Revolution’ became the voice of crores of Indians,” the Home Minister said, adding that his dedication would continue to guide future generations.
Defence Minister Singh described Narayan’s life as a symbol of unwavering commitment to democratic values and the national interest.
His call for “Total Revolution” represented a pledge to uphold integrity in politics, accountability in governance and moral renewal in society, Singh said in a Hindi post on X.
“During the dark chapter of the Emergency, he opposed authoritarianism with indomitable courage,” the Defence Minister said.
Singh added that Narayan’s struggle to defend the Constitution, civil liberties and democratic rights would always be remembered in Indian history.
“Loknayak’s life reminds us that principles are greater than power, and the national interest is greater than personal interest,” he said.
