According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi will undertake a ride on the Chennai Metro from Porur Bypass Station to Poonamallee Bypass Station and back at around 11:30 AM. Later, at around 3 PM, he will participate in the golden jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai.
Chennai Metro and Highway Projects
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch of Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, built at a cost of around ₹4,900 crore. The corridor features a 3.7-km double-decker structure and advanced signalling systems designed to support driverless operations.
The new stretch is expected to improve connectivity between Chennai’s western suburbs and the city centre, reduce commuting time and ease congestion.
PM Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for National Highway projects worth around ₹3,700 crore.
These include the 36-km, four-laned Vadugapatti–Therkuvenganallur section of NH-744 and the 30-km, four-laned Madurai Ring Road section of NH-744A. The projects are expected to improve connectivity to pilgrimage, industrial and commercial centres and ease traffic congestion in Madurai.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the four-lane Thiruvarur Bypass on the Nagapattinam–Thanjavur section of NH-83 to facilitate smoother traffic movement.
Railway Infrastructure and Amrit Stations
Railway infrastructure projects worth over ₹750 crore will also be dedicated to the nation or inaugurated during the visit.
These include the Karaikal–Peralam railway line and three rail flyovers in Coimbatore and surrounding areas. The projects are expected to improve regional connectivity, reduce waiting times at busy level crossings and enhance road safety.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate five redeveloped Amrit stations at Palani, Vellore Cantonment, Ambasamudram, Paramakkudi and Namakkal under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Major Port and Maritime Projects
The visit will also focus on strengthening Tamil Nadu’s maritime infrastructure and logistics network.
At Chennai Port, PM Modi will inaugurate four infrastructure projects: a paved storage yard, four export-import (EXIM) godowns, an upgraded cruise terminal and a seafarers’ club. These facilities are expected to improve cargo handling, expand storage capacity, modernise passenger facilities and strengthen welfare services for maritime personnel.
At V.O. Chidambaranar Port, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for eight development projects aimed at expanding cargo and container-handling capacity, supporting cleaner maritime energy and improving logistics efficiency.
He will also inaugurate the Coal Berth-3 project at Kamarajar Port and lay the foundation stone for capital dredging works for Container Terminal Phase-I, Stage-II.
Petroleum Sector Investment
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the Group II/III Lube Oil Base Stocks (LOBS) project at the existing Manali refinery of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL).
The project, estimated to cost around ₹1,620 crore, will have a production capacity of 270 thousand metric tonnes per annum. It aims to manufacture high-quality base stocks used in premium lubricants, strengthening domestic production capabilities.
IIT Madras Brain Centre and Scientific Research
PM Modi will dedicate the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre at IIT Madras to the nation and launch a scientific mission to map more than 100 human brains into three-dimensional atlases at cellular resolution, covering different stages of life from the foetal stage to old age.
He will also release C-STROKE, a human ischaemic stroke atlas comprising more than 1,000 annotated microscopic sections from a stroke-affected brain. The atlas is expected to support researchers in identifying potential new therapeutic targets.
Golden Jubilee of Jaigopal Garodia School
The Prime Minister will conclude his scheduled public engagements by participating in the golden jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai.
The institution is marking 50 years of its contribution to education, focusing on academic excellence, discipline, cultural values and holistic development. Guided by the motto “Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye”, meaning knowledge that liberates, the school aims to nurture responsible citizens and encourage meaningful contributions to society.
The visit underscores the Centre’s focus on strengthening transport connectivity, maritime infrastructure, industrial capacity and scientific research in Tamil Nadu.
