The Lalit Kala Akademi, the National Academy of Art, on Sunday announced 20 Lalit Kala Akademi Awards at the 65th National Exhibition of Art (NEA), recognising 20 artists for their works across painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking and other forms of contemporary visual art.
The annual exhibition, regarded as one of India’s prominent platforms for contemporary visual art, has brought together diverse artistic practices from across the country and provides artists an opportunity to showcase their work before a national audience.
This year’s exhibition received an overwhelming response, with the Akademi receiving 6,175 artworks from 2,495 artists representing 27 States and Union Territories.
Following a rigorous selection process, the First-Tier Jury selected 270 artworks for display at the exhibition. The selected works represent a wide range of artistic practices, materials and techniques, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing and mixed media.
A Second-Tier Jury subsequently selected 20 artworks by 20 artists for the Lalit Kala Akademi Awards.
20 artists receive Lalit Kala Akademi Awards
The 20 award-winning artists and their artworks are as follows: Chandra Shekhar Sain for My Entire World – I in Terracotta, Sculpture; Gopal Chandra Naskar for The Tune of The Srimad Bhagavad Gita in Acrylic on Canvas, Painting; Kishor Kumar Narkhadiwala for Paryavaran in Oil on Canvas, Painting; Mrinal Dey for Hopeless Settlement in Acrylic on Canvas, Painting; Nidhi Chopra for Tangible Dreams in Ceramic, Sculpture; Nimai Singh Sarungbam for Mudra – I in Teak Wood, Sculpture; Pankaj Kumar Sharma for Haloed Traveler – II in Panel Works, Drawing; Pooja Rajpoot for Prakriti Shoshan in White Marble, Sculpture; Praveen Kumar for Where The Walls Remember in Mix Medium, Painting; Pritam Madhukar Deuskar for Of Time and The City in Etching, Printmaking; Rajendra Prasad for Sujata With Buddha in Water Color (Wash), Painting; Ramesh Vithal Thorat for Untitled – II in Oil on Canvas, Painting; Raviram Ramakrishnan for Fisherwoman in Copper, Oxidised, Welded, Sculpture; Sanjay Kumar for When Memories Come Back – 7 in Mix Media, Painting; Sanjay Kumar Sahani for Youth in Oil on Canvas, Painting; Sanjib Kumar Gogoi for Aakar Nirankar – II in Acrylic & Oil on Canvas, Painting; Santa Deb for Attraction of Simplicity in Ceramic, Sculpture; Siddharth Shahjirao Shingade for Trees in Mix Media, Painting; Usharanjan Mandal for Wheel of A Crowded City in Mix Media, Any Other Medium; and Vijendra Sharma for Life 2025 in Oil on Canvas, Painting.
The diversity of the selected works reflects the range of contemporary Indian artistic expression and artists’ continued experimentation with materials, ideas and forms.
Exhibition strengthens creative economy
Beyond recognising artistic achievement, the National Exhibition of Art also contributes to India’s growing creative economy by connecting artists with audiences, collectors and institutions.
The exhibition provides greater visibility and professional opportunities for artists, while the display and sale of artworks can provide direct economic benefits to participating artists and support the sustainability of their artistic practices.
The Lalit Kala Akademi said the exhibition reflects its continuing commitment to encouraging both established and emerging artists, promoting experimentation and providing a national platform for diverse artistic voices.
The participation of artists from 27 States and Union Territories further underscores the national character of the National Exhibition of Art.
The Akademi congratulated the 20 awardees and all participating artists and acknowledged the contribution of the two juries involved in selecting the artworks for the 65th National Exhibition of Art.
