Keralam’s cultural mementos featured in PM Mementos e-Auction 2026

A collection of 32 mementos from Keralam is being offered in the PM Mementos e-Auction 2026, showcasing the state’s art, craftsmanship, performing traditions and cultural heritage.

The collection includes a traditional Nettoor Petti, a miniature Chundan Vallam, Kathakali and Theyyam artefacts, Keralam mural art and a handcrafted model of the historic Beypore Uru.

The Orange Nettoor Petti, a traditional jewellery box featuring mural art and brass detailing, reflects the craftsmanship associated with the traditional storage chests historically used in aristocratic households to keep ornaments and sacred objects.

Keralam’s maritime heritage is represented by a finely crafted Chundan Vallam, the traditional snake boat associated with the state’s backwaters and Onam boat races. The collection also features a miniature Beypore Uru, a traditional wooden maritime dhow. The model was handcrafted by the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI), Calicut, under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and replicates the wooden dhows traditionally built by master carpenters in Beypore.

The state’s performing arts are represented by a Kathakali dancer display doll and a print depicting a Kathakali performer, showcasing elements of the classical dance-drama, including its elaborate makeup, costumes, ornaments and headgear.

Another notable item is the Bhairavan Theyyam Ritual Art Sculpture, representing Bhairavan Theyyam, a ritual dance-art tradition of North Keralam associated with a manifestation of Lord Shiva. The sculpture features characteristic headgear, facial makeup, breastplates and traditional attire.

Keralam’s mural tradition is represented by a framed painting of Radha, Krishna and a Gopika, created by artists at the Institute of Mural Painting, Guruvayur Devaswom. The artwork depicts Krishna playing the flute beneath a banyan tree with Radha and a Gopika and is executed on a specially prepared cement sheet using the traditional five-colour Panchavarna technique.

The collection also includes works associated with the state’s spiritual and social heritage, including a devotional portrait of Adi Shankaracharya, a carved wooden plaque featuring the Sivagiri Mutt Commemorative Carved Wooden Temple, a framed print of Poykayil Sree Kumara Gurudevan and a framed photograph of Sree Vidyadhiraja Chattambi Swamikal.

A framed commemorative artwork marking 100 years of the Vaikom Satyagraha is also part of the collection. Other items include a traditional Nettipattam, a Kerala brass Vastu Vilakku, a carved wooden statue of Lord Guruvayurappan and a traditional Shankhu (conch) memento.

The eighth edition of the PM Mementos e-Auction 2026 will remain live until October 2. The auction features mementos representing Kerala’s cultural heritage and traditions.
