One Indian national was killed and 19 other Indian seafarers were rescued after commercial vessel MV Cape Dao came under attack off the east coast of Oman on Wednesday.
The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased Indian national.
The MEA said the Indian Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Omani authorities for the early repatriation of the rescued Indian seafarers. It also thanked the Omani authorities for their support.
The Embassy of India in Oman said it was in close coordination with the Omani authorities regarding the safety of the crew members and was also coordinating with the relevant authorities and the family of the deceased.
The MEA said the continuing attacks on commercial shipping in the region are deeply worrisome. It reiterated India’s call for dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate tensions and facilitate an early return of peace in the region.
India also called for an end to the targeting of commercial vessels, seafarers and civilian infrastructure, stressing the need to restore free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through international waterways in the region.
India has consistently called for safe navigation in international waters and unhindered movement of commerce through international waterways.
