PM Modi: Water Security a Shared Responsibility, Calls for Scientific Solutions and Jan Bhagidari

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday emphasised that water security is a shared responsibility requiring stronger systems, scientific solutions and sustained public participation, or Jan Bhagidari.

He shared an article by Union Minister for Jal Shakti C R Patil published in an English daily, highlighting India’s efforts to build climate-resilient water management through initiatives such as the Jal Jeevan Mission, Namami Gange, water conservation and technology-driven solutions.

PM Modi said the article offered an insightful perspective on how people’s participation, coupled with sustained efforts by states and communities, can help secure water for future generations in a sustainable manner.

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a post on X:

In his article, Patil noted that India will welcome the global water community to the 9th India International Water Week, organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti from September 22 to 26, 2026, in New Delhi.

The article also highlighted the lessons from the recent Departmental Summit on Water, an initiative mooted by Prime Minister Modi, where states and Union Territories came together to deliberate on challenges in the water sector, share experiences and identify the way forward.
