The PM Vishwakarma scheme has completed three years with 30 lakh traditional artisans and craftspeople registered across the country, of whom around 24.50 lakh have received basic skill training, Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said at the scheme’s third anniversary celebrations in Kolkata.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2023, PM Vishwakarma seeks to strengthen the livelihoods and entrepreneurial capabilities of traditional artisans through skill training, modern toolkits, concessional credit and market support.
Manjhi said 18.15 lakh modern toolkits have been delivered to beneficiaries through India Post, while 6.18 lakh Vishwakarmas have received loans of up to ₹1 lakh at a concessional interest rate of 5 per cent per annum. The loans sanctioned under this component amount to ₹5,297 crore.
West Bengal was onboarded for implementation of PM Vishwakarma in May 2026. Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said more than seven lakh applications had been received under the scheme in the state and assured coordinated efforts to expedite implementation and facilitate access to benefits for eligible artisans.
The third anniversary event was organised by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) at the Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium in Kolkata. An exhibition showcasing the traditional arts and crafts of Vishwakarma artisans was also inaugurated during the event.
Minister of State for MSME Shobha Karandlaje urged beneficiaries to make full use of the opportunities available under the scheme and highlighted the importance of empowering women entrepreneurs.
PM Vishwakarma ID cards and certificates, toolkits and ₹1 lakh loan cheques were distributed to artisans from West Bengal. More than 2,000 Vishwakarmas and Panchayat functionaries from across the state participated in the celebrations.
