Two kittens who were abandoned in a plastic bag are continuing to recover after being discovered by a dog walker.
Byfleet Cat Rescue said four kittens who were about five weeks old were found by a man walking his dog in Addlestone at about 22:00 BST on Sunday, but two of them had died.
The two surviving ginger kittens, dubbed Peanut and Butter, are now being fostered until they are ready to find a permanent home.
Nicola Tait, founder of the cat rescue charity, told BBC Radio Surrey: “I was absolutely shocked, the kittens had no chance.”
She added: “Normally we would have been asked about kittens of this age.
“They are doing really well now. Butter was slightly quiet yesterday, but they are both playing around and doing really well now.”
Tait said they were called about the kittens on Monday, after they had been taken to the vet by the person who found them.
The two kittens will stay in foster care until they are eight to 10 weeks old, at which point the process will begin to find them a permanent home.
Tait said that the cat rescue charity had faced a busy summer in which it took in 90 cats.
“We will always try and help where we can”, she said.
In September, the rescue centre backed a petition calling for solutions to a “rapidly escalating animal welfare crisis” across the UK.
Charity Cats’ Protection said in its most recent annual report that it took in around 7,000 stray and abandoned cats in 2025, but that adoptions rates have dropped in recent years.
