India added two more medals to its tally at the Asian Games 2026 on Wednesday, with the women’s skeet team winning bronze and Jay Meena securing a historic medal in soft tennis.
The trio of Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan finished third in the women’s skeet team event after three days of qualification rounds. The Indian team recorded a combined score of 331.
China’s Che Yufei, Jian Yiting and Jiang Chaoyu won gold with 347, while Kazakhstan’s Assem Orynbay, Zoya Piskun and Adel Sadakbayeva took silver with 336.
Earlier, double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker qualified for the women’s 10m air pistol final after finishing third in qualification with a score of 579-20x. However, India missed out on a medal in the team event as Bhaker, Esha Singh and Suruchi Inder Singh finished behind bronze medallists Vietnam by two inner-10s.
With the women’s skeet team bronze, India’s shooting medal tally rose to seven, comprising four silver and three bronze medals.
At the previous edition in Hangzhou, India won seven gold, nine silver and six bronze medals for a then-record haul of 22 medals in shooting.
Meanwhile, Jay Meena created history by securing India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in soft tennis after a dramatic comeback victory over Sherwin Nuguit of the Philippines in the quarterfinal.With the contest tied 3-3, Meena trailed 3-5 in the deciding game but won the next four points to complete a 4-3 victory and book his place in the semifinals.
Meena will face the winner of the quarterfinal between Japan’s Takuya Kurosaka and Chinese Taipei’s Yu-sung Chang in the last four.
The losing semifinalists will be awarded bronze medals, while the winners will advance to the gold medal match.
India are currently eighth in the overall medal standings with one gold, four silver and three bronze medals. At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, held in 2023, India finished fourth with a record 107 medals.
