Indian equity benchmark indices opened in positive territory during the special Muhurat Trading session on Sunday, marking a positive start to Samvat 2083, the Hindu financial year.
At the opening bell at 2:20 pm, the BSE Sensex gained around 250 points, while the NSE Nifty advanced nearly 40 points.
The special 70-minute trading session is scheduled from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) is also observing the same trading hours.
Muhurat Trading is an annual tradition in the Indian stock market, with investors considering the special session auspicious for making fresh investments. Coinciding with Diwali and Lakshmi Puja, the session marks the beginning of the Vikram Samvat calendar year.
The markets entered Samvat 2083 on a positive note after recording their strongest weekly gains in nearly six years. The Nifty surged more than 8 per cent during the preceding week, while both the Sensex and Nifty extended their winning streak to seven consecutive trading sessions.
Market experts expect the outlook for the new Samvat to remain constructive, although returns may be moderate and selective. Earnings growth, rather than valuation expansion, is expected to be the key driver of market performance.
Investors are advised to focus on quality stocks, earnings resilience and prudent investment strategies as the new financial year begins.
