Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan will visit Ayodhya on Saturday to participate in Deepotsav 2026, an official said on Friday.
During his visit, the Vice-President will offer prayers at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and take part in the symbolic coronation ceremony of Lord Ram. He will also felicitate revered saints on the occasion.
This year’s Deepotsav marks the 10th anniversary of the grand festival, being celebrated a day ahead of Diwali on Sunday.
Organisers are aiming to illuminate more than 30-33 lakh earthen lamps across 56 ghats, including Ram Ki Paidi and the banks of the Saryu River, according to an official statement.
The celebrations began in Ayodhya on Thursday, with lakhs of earthen lamps illuminating the riverbanks. As part of the festivities, the banks of the Gomti River at Maa Kamakhya Dham, near Ayodhya, were also illuminated with 1.51 lakh diyas during the sixth annual Deepotsav celebrations.
Earlier this week, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the economic significance of the festival, saying the celebrations were generating livelihood opportunities for potters, farmers and local traders while strengthening religious faith.
In a post on X, Adityanath said the grand Deepotsav in Ayodhya was giving fresh momentum to the local economy alongside reinforcing faith.
“The grand Deepotsav of Shri Ayodhya Dham is giving fresh momentum to the economy along with faith. Every diya lit here is bringing new light to the hard work of a potter, the produce of a farmer and the livelihood of a family,” he wrote.
The Chief Minister alleged that previous governments had failed to connect Ayodhya’s cultural potential with the economic prosperity of local artisans, farmers and small traders.
“There was a complete lack of vision to transform the strength of faith into new livelihood opportunities. The double-engine government has dispelled this darkness,” he said.
Adityanath added that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the celebrations, illuminated by lakhs of diyas, were creating new employment and business opportunities for potters, labourers and small traders.
