The Ministry of Railways held a cultural programme at Rail Bhawan on Thursday as part of the closing week of its year-long celebrations commemorating 150 years of Vande Mataram.
Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar, Board Members, Directors General and other senior railway officials attended the event, which marked the fourth and final phase of the celebrations. The closing week runs from November 1 to 7.
Winners of the essay and quiz competitions held during earlier phases were presented with prizes and merit certificates. The Railway Board Cultural Group was also honoured with a prize and merit certificate for its contribution to organising programmes throughout the year.
The celebrations were conducted in four phases, with activities highlighting national unity, patriotism and the cultural heritage associated with the National Song.
The first phase began with mass singing of Vande Mataram at Rail Bhawan on November 7, 2025, in the presence of Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
An essay competition on “Vande Mataram: The Spirit of Unity in India’s Diversity” followed on January 22, 2026, giving participants an opportunity to reflect on the song’s significance and message of unity.
The third phase featured a quiz on the 150-year journey of Vande Mataram on August 10, 2026, and a Tiranga Rally within the Rail Bhawan premises. Vaishnaw led the rally, which was attended by Satish Kumar and other senior officials.
The Ministry said the celebrations reaffirmed railway officials’ commitment to unity, dedication and collective effort, as well as sincerity, integrity and efficiency in discharging their duties.
