Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Tehran will maintain its existing policies regardless of whether another conflict breaks out, warning that any renewed military action against Iran would be irrational, according to Iranian news agency ISNA.
Araghchi made the remarks at the inauguration of the Martyr Seyyed Kamal Kharrazi Documentation Centre and Museum, along with a specialised meeting on the role of Kharrazi in shaping foreign policy consensus and the opening of a specialised library at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Iranian Foreign Minister said discussions about the possibility of another war had resurfaced, but stressed that Iran’s policies would remain unchanged. He also asserted that the regional security situation had fundamentally changed following what he described as the 40-day war.
Araghchi said the Strait of Hormuz would not return to its previous state after the conflict, adding that the war had altered regional security arrangements. He described the conflict, which he referred to as the “Ramadan War”, as a turning point in the region’s history and called for any eventual end to the war to cover all fronts.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also claimed that Iranian forces had destroyed more than 80 American aircraft and fighter jets during the conflict, alleging that nearly all had been struck by missiles while on the ground. He further claimed that almost all US military bases in the region had been severely damaged, with hundreds of buildings destroyed. These claims were reported by ISNA and have not been independently verified in the material provided.
His remarks come amid renewed speculation over possible US military action. US President Donald Trump, while speaking to reporters after casting his ballot in Florida, said an attack on Iran was possible but also left open the prospect of reaching an agreement with Tehran. Trump questioned whether Iran would adhere to any potential deal.
Trump also praised the performance of the US military and made claims about the damage inflicted on Iran’s military capabilities and naval assets.
Meanwhile, Iran has denied reports that it had offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the lifting of a US naval blockade. The IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency, citing sources, reported that Tehran had made no new proposal to Pakistani mediators and described reports of such an offer as fabricated. The reports had earlier appeared in a Saudi Arabian outlet, according to Press TV.
